Meet a Member: Ameritrust Group

Throughout the year, the Insurance Alliance of Michigan is highlighting our member companies so you can learn more about each of them and the work they're doing to protect our families, homes and businesses and make our roads safer.

Ameritrust Group is headquartered in Southfield, Michigan, with additional offices in Ann Arbor, Saginaw, Grand Rapids, and Jackson. You can learn more about them on their website and LinkedIn.

How many independent agencies do you work with?

In excess of 140 agencies in Michigan. What types of insurance do you offer?

AmeriTrust designs, markets, and underwrites commercial property/casualty insurance products including workers’ compensation. We also provide tailored coverage for the specialized needs of select industries and offer excess and surplus lines products to address the needs of broad classes of “Main Street” commercial risks that are generally ineligible for coverage by the standard market.

What charitable giving efforts is your company involved in?

In 2018, AmeriTrust Group’s associates participated in a corporate-wide survey and selected two national charities to be our charities-of-choice. Those are St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Make-a-Wish Foundation. AmeriTrust Group has contributed to both organizations, and we encourage our associates to do so as well.

In addition, our associates volunteer for organizations including Forgotten Harvest, the Bottomless Toy Chest, the Michigan chapter of Volunteers of America, Habitat for Humanity and several others in our other offices throughout the U.S.

What sets your company apart from others in your industry?

We are a fully integrated insurance organization, offering a variety of business insurance products and services, providing brokerage access to insurance markets, offering specialized risk management services to clients across the U.S.

The insurance industry has played a big part in Michigan’s comeback. Why should recent college graduates consider a career in insurance?

The insurance industry offers a number of exciting career paths for young people. Changes in our economy require those in the insurance industry to be constantly innovative and agile around product development and sales. Understanding risk and having the ability to provide underwriting services faster and with flexibility offers an opportunity to work with new and developing technology tools.

Finally, the emergence of issues such as cybersecurity exposures enables insurers to be on the cutting edge of what is happening in our business world every day.

What Michigan landmark best represents your company?

The Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation is a good example of a Michigan landmark that represents AmeriTrust Group. The museum is known for innovation, and at AmeriTrust, our innovative spirit is one of our key strengths. We are also proud of our American heritage, which is part of our name, AmeriTrust. American accomplishments are featured throughout the Henry Ford Museum so we have a parallel sense of pride.

Is there anything else you would like lawmakers, staff or other thought leaders to know about your company?

AmeriTrust Group is a thriving company, looking to continue to grow through new product development and acquisitions in both Michigan and elsewhere. We are proud to be Michigan-based, and we are always pleased to share our success stories with others in the state, including our recent upgrade to A- from A.M. Best’s rating service.
