New hire reaffirms IAM’s commitment to serve as fact-based expert on insurance-related issues
LANSING – The Insurance Alliance of Michigan (IAM) today announced the appointment of Shanda Greco as its new General Counsel.
Greco joins IAM after serving as General Counsel for the nonpartisan Michigan Legislative Council, where she advised on legal and policy issues across Council agencies. Greco also served as Director of the Council’s Research Services Division, leading a team of attorneys who provide members of the Legislature with objective, nonpartisan research and analysis.
Greco brings more than a decade of public‑sector legal and policy experience. Prior to her tenure at the Legislative Council, she held senior roles in the Michigan House of Representatives, including Deputy Chief of Staff and Associate Legal Counsel, advising House leadership and committees on legislative, constitutional and employment‑law matters. She holds a Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Michigan.
“We are thrilled to welcome Shanda Greco to our leadership team,” said Erin McDonough, executive director of IAM. “We are a data-driven, solution-oriented industry and Shanda’s deep experience navigating complex legal questions in Lansing, combined with her proven leadership of high‑performing teams, will strengthen IAM’s education and advocacy for both our members and members of Michigan’s Legislature.”
“I’m honored to join IAM and support its mission on behalf of Michigan consumers and insurers,” Greco said. “I look forward to partnering with our members and policymakers to provide practical, principled legal counsel that helps advance sound, consumer‑focused insurance policy. For those who know me, you know I take great pride in being an honest, trusted resource and I’m pleased to be able to continue to be that resource for Michigan’s property and casualty insurance industry.”
This new hire comes on the heels of Dyck VanKoevering, current IAM General Counsel, announcing his retirement. He will move from General Counsel to an Of Counsel role within IAM.
“I have greatly appreciated my time at IAM and while I’m excited about my next chapter, I look forward to continuing to be a resource in Michigan on important insurance issues,” Van Koevering said.
Greco officially begins her new role at the Insurance Alliance of Michigan on Monday, Feb. 2.
